Sustainability

We’ve committed to the Make It Net Zero programme – aiming to achieve a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030, and net zero by 2050.

A 4.2KW photovoltaic solar system supplies electricity throughout the farm including the lodges, and we’ve planted a hectare of native broadleaved trees to create Little Haddon Wood. The wood will enable the farm to be self-sufficient in fuel for years to come, whilst also providing a habitat for local wildlife.

Low-energy LED lightbulbs are used throughout the farm, and we encourage guests to keep lighting to a minimum to conserve energy and reduce light pollution.

The farm, farmhouse, and safari lodges are all served by our own freshwater spring. Any waste is processed by a water treatment plant, which safely discharges into a small stream.

We harvest rainwater for livestock with a self-powered water pump. This pumps the water into our highest field, where it can be distributed to livestock via a series of pipes and troughs.

We compost most organic waste, and recycle household and business waste wherever possible.

Food wise, we try to keep mileage to a minimum while supporting local businesses.

Eggs and meat are provided by our farm animals, and we grow our own vegetables and salads. Any other provisions are sourced from local suppliers.

We make a point of utilising locally based tradesmen or businesses to support the maintenance and running of our farm.

Our farm supports an abundance of wildlife – such as owls, pheasants, badgers, foxes, birds of prey, roe deer and red deer, insects, and other invertebrates.

We work hard to keep wildlife disturbance to a minimum and to enhance habitats wherever possible.

We also encourage our guests to learn about and care for our amazing local wildlife.

We’ve worked closely with the Farming and Wildlife Advisory to identify and understand the environmental value of our land.

The creation of Little Haddon Wood, which consists of 1700 broadleaved native trees, provided an environment for wildlife to flourish.

It also supports the maintenance of an established wetland, which is noted to have a role in local flood defence and is of high ecological value.

We work closely with other local businesses to support one another and the area as a whole.

We collaborate with Exmoor National Park Authority and the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group on issues that impact the wider area.

By all playing our part, we can benefit all the local places special to us, and preserve their future.
